Without further ado before 3 p.m. ET on Monday, researchers cheered, embraced and exchanged high-fives as their prized specialty securely arrived on the Red Planet and began sending back its first pictures.
The InSight lander touched base on Mars' surface in what NASA said will be "seven minutes of dread" as their prized art decelerated from 12,300 mph to 5 mph at landing.
"There's a reason engineers call arriving on Mars 'seven minutes of fear,' " said Rob Grover, who drives the group responsible for InSight's arrival at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, California.
"We can't joystick the arrival, so we need to depend on the directions we pre-program into the shuttle. We've invested years testing our plans, gaining from different Mars arrivals and concentrate every one of the conditions Mars can toss at us. Also, we will remain careful till InSight sinks into its home in the Elysium Planitia locale."

Researchers picked the Elysium Planitia for their arrival recognize, an expansive plain that has been classified "the greatest parking area on Mars."
Here are a portion of the insights about InSight's adventure:
THE MISSION
NASA needs to get a far reaching look underneath the Martian surface and gather information about the planet's covering, mantle, and center with a 16-foot burrow beneath. It'll ideally answer the fundamental inquiry of whether Mars could have bolstered life.
Understanding is short for the tasks formal name, the Interior Exploration utilizing Seismic Investigations, Geodesy and Heat Transport.

Separation AND COST
Knowledge has been in trip since May 5 when it impacted out of Vandenberg Air Force Base in California, venturing out 301 million miles to Mars at a mission cost of $850 million.
A 39-foot parachute was set to direct the 800-pound, sun oriented fueled InSight to its Martian parking space.
Timeframe of realistic usability
For the following two years (or one Mars year), researchers want to gather information that'll indicate how smaller scale creatures may have once existed there. The specialty is worked to last no less than two years and with any good fortune, it could continue working for an additional two years behind that, said NASA boss researchers Jim Green.
